Echinacea (Coneflower)

A North American native perennial used as an herbal immune remedy — though it tastes terrible.

Echinacea (Coneflower)

Echinacea is a North American native perennial, typically lasting 3-5 years in the garden. It was used historically by Indigenous peoples and settlers, and it is popular again as an herbal immune remedy — though Cindy's kids called it 'yuck-i-necea.'

How to grow it

  • A perennial that typically lasts 3-5 years in the garden.
  • Let the flowers stand for pollinators and seed heads for birds in fall.

How to use & eat it

  • Root decoction: 2 tbsp dried root per 3 cups water, simmer 20-30 minutes.
