Lamb's Ear
The soft, velvety 'bandaid plant' with silvery leaves and pink flower spikes.
Lamb's Ear is an easy-care perennial with soft, velvety grey-green leaves shaped like a lamb's ear, growing 6-8 inches tall with flower spikes reaching 12-18 inches. It is often confused with Mullein in early spring, since both have similar grey, fuzzy leaves.
How to grow it
- Prefers full sun and dry soil — native to the Middle East, it's a great fit for a naturally dry, hard-to-water spot in the garden.
How to use & eat it
- Historically called the 'bandaid plant' — used for centuries as a wound dressing, especially on battlefields.
- The soft leaves help absorb blood and may help it clot faster, with natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Also a lovely dried plant for wreaths.
